Day 3.....Muse and Surfing......

Today's topics?
Muse and Surfing
Muse.....
1. The band Muse originated in 1994.
2. They have put out 5 albums so far; "Showbiz", "Origins of Symmetry", "Absolution", "Black Holes and Revelations" and "The Resistance".
3. Muse consists of 3 members; Matthew Bellamy (lead vocals, guitar and piano), Christopher Wolsentholme (bass guitar, backup vocals, and keyboards) and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion and synthesizer).
4. Muse is considered "alternative rock" but is actually a fusion of multiple genres including progressive rock, classical music, heavy metal and electronica.
5. Matthew Bellamy and Dominic Howard were originally in a band together called Gothic Plague.
6. "Absolution" debuted at number 1 in the UK in 2003.
7. It had 1 number 1 hit as well as 3 top 20 hits; "Time is Running Out" along with "Hysteria", "Sing for Absolution" and "Butterflies and Hurricanes".
8. Matthew Bellamy is mostly recognized by his use of vibrato and falsetto when he sings.
9. The band has only 1 live album out-"HAARP" and it was made in 2008.
10. "Black Holes and Revelations" earned the band a Mercury Prize, their first official musical award.
Surfing....
1. There are 2 divisions of surfing- Longboarding and shortboarding (what are the odds?!)
2. "Tow-in surfing" involves a water vehicle towing the surfer to the wave.
3. Paddleboarding (another form of surfing) doesn't involve waves at all! Just the board!
4. Surfing was first done by the Europeans in Tahiti in 1767.
5. Artificial reefs have been constructed in certain areas to promote more surfer tourism.
6. The "Shaka Sign", made by turning your fingers into the sign language sign for the letter "y", is big in surfing culture, meaning many things, from "hang loose" to "cool" or "smooth".
7. The unbroken portion of a wave is called the "shoulder".
8. Accidentally driving the nose of your board into the water is called a "pearl" and it will generally cause the surfer to be thrown from his board, ending the ride.
9. Surfboards in the 1940's and 50's were made from Balsa wood. Modern boards are made from polyurethane foam, fiberglass cloth and polyester resin.
10. Things such as collisions, marine life, riptides and the sea bed itself can sometimes present problems for many surfers!
.......You learn something new every day!
(I'm giving up on the pictures at this point. Sorry guys......)
